SmartWay Excellence Awards

LTI, Inc. and its Milky Way division are multi-year winners of the SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA awards recognize the top one percent of SmartWay partners for superior environmental performance and leadership. LTI, Inc. earned a top score in the Tanker Fleet Category based on its exceptional fuel economy, payload, idle time and emissions equipment.

SmartWay High Performer

Lynden Transport recently earned a SmartWay High Performer Award for operating efficiencies in its flatbed and reefer fleets. The company is included in the top 20 percent of national carriers for reducing carbon emissions and achieved top-ranking performance for all metrics, including fuel efficiency. Fewer than 10 percent of all SmartWay carriers operate fleets efficient enough to make the SmartWay High Performer list for carbon emissions. SmartWay Transport Partner

Lynden Transport was the first Alaska-based transportation company to join SmartWay in 2008 followed by Lynden companies Milky Way, LTI, Inc. and Brown Line in 2010, and Alaska West Express in 2013.

The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a collaboration between the U.S. EPA and transportation companies to voluntarily improve fuel efficiency and reduce air pollution from freight transport.

The Lynden companies consistently score among the most efficient fleets in the nation in terms of CO2 per ton mile (a measure of fuel efficiency and payload) despite operating in some of the most steep terrain and extreme weather.

Green Star

The Lynden family of companies earned their first Green Star Award for environmental stewardship in Alaska in 2009, becoming the first trucking company to qualify for the green program. Alaska Marine Trucking became Juneau's first Green Star business in 2012. Green Star recognizes businesses that practice waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention. Lynden Transport, Alaska West Express, Lynden International and Lynden Air Cargo continue to maintain their Green Star certification as part of our commitment to the environment and the communities in which we work.

ALPAR Contributor of the Year

For more than a decade, Lynden Transport, Alaska West Express and Alaska Marine Lines have supported cleanup and recycling efforts in Alaska, turning waste into resources for local organization. In 2014, Lynden was named Contributor of the Year by Alaskans for Litter Preventions and Recycling (ALPAR). Lynden's companies continue to backhaul recyclables from Anchorage to Seattle and from Kenai to Anchorage at no charge helping to make recycling free and convenient for Alaska's rail-belt communities.
